They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security - Benjamin Franklin

Religion in the United States

This country was founded as a safe haven for all religions. The separation of church and state was intended to keep the government from declaring that theirs is the only god available. This was not designed to make all mention of God, the Lord and Master Almighty of the Bible, taboo in any setting even remotely considered connected to the government. Into this vacuum the gods of others are the only ones involved in our government. I find it curiously interesting that pagan rituals, which are and were considered sacred religious rites to them, are allowed to be celebrated in government buildings. I am, of course, talking about Halloween which can be celebrated in schools and government offices. This is contingent on the requirement that God not be brought into it. A child chose to dress as Jesus Christ for Halloween this year (2008) and was sent home from school because his costume was too disruptive. This was determined by the number of children flocking around him and requesting to be able to see him. Were he dressed as Freddy Kruger (I know I am dating myself) with help from the Hollywood effects company that created the character originally, and this caused a stir the school would most likely have paraded him with pride through each and every room in the building. However, by glorifying our Savior the child was considered a disturbance and a nuisance. I truly wonder how many witches, warlocks, demons, satyrs and satans were proudly welcomed into the hallowed halls of public education establishments and government buildings. What I find incredible about this whole story and what I feel upset the school the most is this; The Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, and our Savior was drawing children to him. Whether as a costumed child or not, there is an incredible desire in this country to find God and there are many forces in the establishment fighting it with everything they have.
